BEN SCHAEFER RECEIVES EAGLE SCOUT BADGE

On Sunday afternoon of July 25th Ben Schaefer received his Eagle Scout badge in a ceremony at the First United Methodist Church. The church has been a longtime sponsor of the local scout troups. Ben chose as his project to build shelves for the newest addition to the food pantry and to hold a food drive to stock the shelves. The local food pantry is a mission of the FUMC.

FOOD PANTRY VISIT

On Saturday July 17th Connie Kirkham had a "grandkids and cousins" camp. Each child brought canned goods for the food pantry and delivered it that day. They were given a tour of the food pantry and a brief history of how it helps people in need of food. Need of food can be a continuing situation or a one-time event. The food pantry was started by the First United Methodist Church and continues to be their mission project.

PICNIC ICE CREAM CONTEST

The highlight of the picnic was the 1st annual ice cream crank-off contest. Since not many have actual crank type freezers the electric freezers of homemade ice cream were judged by our special guests.....John and Betty Sue Adams of Cross Plains and Tim, Beth and Andy Byerly (former church members) of Breckenridge. Of the 8 freezers of ice cream Larry and Judy Kilgo's Banana nut with a "surprise" took first place. Second place was won by Bill and Judy Porter with Banana nut ice cream. Hollis and Cherry Shults won third with peach ice cream. The People's Choice was Debi Bennett's strawberry ice cream.

The new sand volleyball court, washer pits and horseshoe pits were enjoyed by all....youngsters, not so oldsters, and a few daring oldsters. A fun time was had by all.

JULY 3rd PICNIC AND GAMES

Celebrating July 4th on the Saturday the 3rd, our FUMC family used the new picnic facilities east of the church for the first time. Approximately 50-60 people ate hotdogs and hamburgers that were cooked on the new firepit made by Joe and John Fred McWilliams. New steel tables and benches complete the picnic area.
